MINURCAT and Central African Government discuss future UN military presence in the CAR

N’Djamena, 23 January 2009 – A Central African government delegation led by Prime Minister Faustin Touadera met, in the country’s capital Bangui, with Victor Angelo, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) to discuss the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1861.  The resolution calls for a United Nations peacekeeping force to succeed EUFOR, the European military presence, in the Vakaga district of northeastern CAR.  The Government of the CAR expressed it appreciation for the continued international support to end instability in that part of the country. read more in PDF format

 

The Security Council Adopts Resolution 1861 (2009) for the Deployment of 5,200 Peacekeepers

 N’Djamena, 15 January 2009 – Through the UN Resolution 1861 adopted in New York on 14 January 2009, the Security Council approved the deployment of 5,200 peacekeepers to replace the European troops in eastern Chad and northeastern Central African Republic from 15 March 2009.  read more in PDF Format

Security Is Returning to Birao

Maj-Gen Gerardo Chaumont Assumes his Duties as MINURCAT’s New Police Commissioner

N’Djamena, 15 August 2008 – Major-General Gerardo Christian Chaumont of Argentina assumes his duties today as Chief of the Police of the United Nations Mission in Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT). He succeeds Acting Police Commissioner, Antero Lopes, from Portugal, who left the Mission on 14 August 2008 after more than six months of service of service. read more in PDF format

 

The First Lady of the Republic of Chad Participates in MINURCAT’s Workshop on Gender-Based Violence

N’Djamena, 7 October 2008 – The First Lady of the Republic of Chad, Mrs. Hinda Deby Itno, took part on 6 October 2008 in the opening ceremony of a three-day workshop organized by the United Nations Mission in Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) with a focus on gender-based violence as experienced by refugees and Internally displaced persons (IDPs) in eastern Chad. read more in PDF format

The Chadian Minister of Human Rights and MINURCAT’s Deputy SRSG Visit Arkoum IDP Site

N’Djamena, 25 August 2008 – The Chadian Minister for Human Rights and Protection of Liberties and Ms. Rima Salah, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General (DSRSG) in Central African Republic and Chad, completed a three-day mission to eastern Chad on 22-24 August. Launch of the Training of the Détachement intégré de sécurité in Chad

N’Djamena, Chad, 9 April 2008 – The United Nations Mission in Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) initiated on 9 April 2008 the training of Chadian commanders as part of the Détachement intégré de sécurité (DIS). The ceremony took place at the Academy of the Gendarmerie in the presence of State Minister and Special Representative of the President of the Republic for MINURCAT and EUFOR, Mr. Youssouf Saley Abbas, and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Chad, Mr. Victor Angelo, the diplomatic corps, as well as personalities of the Government and the UN system. read more in PDF format
