Mr. Mamadou Mountaga Diallo of Guinea is replacing Major-General Gerardo Christian Chaumont of Argentina as the new Chief of MINURCAT Police. General Chaumont left Chad in December last year after completing 16 months of service with MINURCAT. Mr. Diallo was appointed by the Secretary- General of the United Nations, and assumed
his duties as the new Chief of MINURCAT UN Police (UNPol) on 29 December 2009.

Prior to this last nomination, Mr. Diallo served as the Police Commissioner of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). From 1998 to December 2002, Mr. Diallo served in the Guinean Ministry of Security as Advisor to the Minister responsible for security matters. During his long career, which began in 1973 as a police officer, Mr. Diallo has also held various positions that allowed him to master key aspects of police missions, including Transport Police, General Intelligence, and Judicial Police.

Mr. Diallo was educated at the Police Academy of Conakry, Republic of Guinea, and the Police Academy of Algiers, in Algeria
