Communities agree to end disputes

On 30 June, the Intercommunity Dialogue was officially launched in the Assoungha department (30km east of Hadjer-Hadid) in the presence of administrative and traditional authorities. Both community representatives, Massalit and Zaghawa, indicated their desire and commitment to put an end to their past disputes. The representative of the Zaghawa pledged to put an end to acts of insecurity such as land occupation, and field devastation by unguarded cattle. A reconciliation committee to address those specific issues and complaints was established under the auspices of the traditional authorities. This paves the way for the voluntary return of the Massalit communities. MINURCAT will implement quick impact projects to help improve conditions in the area of return.
