Departure from Chad of SRSG Victor Angelo

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the Central African Republic and Chad, Mr. Victor Angelo, left Chad on Friday, 26 March 2010. He leaves MINURCAT at a time when the United Nations is having discussions with Chadian authorities on the future of the Mission.

Mr. Angelo arrived in Chad on 7 March 2008 to be the Head of MINURCAT. He will be retiring on 1 April 2010, after 32 years of service within the United Nations System, of which 29 in Africa.

Assistant-Secretary-General Youssef Mahmoud has been named by the Secretary-General to assume the leadership of the Mission as Acting SRSG, starting 1 April.
